Financial Accountant

AMA’s Financial team manages the bookkeeping, financial reporting and VAT filings for a wide range of (international) clients that are based in the Netherlands. Our clients are active in many different sectors and come from many different countries.

For this team, we are looking for a Financial Accountant (32-40h per week). In this broad position you will be responsible for the maintenance of the financial administration of our varied client portfolio, the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports, as well as (assisting with) the preparation of annual financial statements.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Maintaining and updating financial administrations in various accounting software systems, primarily Twinfield, Xero and Exact.
  • Performing day-to-day bookkeeping, and reconciling general ledger accounts.
  • Preparing month-end and quarterly closing reports, ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial data.
  • Reviewing the bookkeeping and drafted financial reports prepared by Junior Financial Accountants.
  • Preparing, reconciling, and filing VAT returns.
  • Analysing client provided trial balances and general ledgers, verifying them against supporting documentation, identifying discrepancies, and liaising with clients to resolve issues.
  • Drafting annual financial statements mostly independently, and once signed and adopted, filing them with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce.
  • Communicating with a diverse international client base, providing ad-hoc support and advice on Dutch accounting requirements.

  • Completed education in a financial direction (minimum HBO level) with at least 3 years’ relevant work experience being a plus;
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, sumifs, index match), as well as the ability to quickly master accounting & payroll programs such as Twinfield, Xero, Exact and Nmbrs;
  • Strong communication skills in English and Dutch, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to work as a team player;
  • Accurate in performing data entry and word processing;
  • Efficient in solving problems, and working with diverse variables.
